What are some of the negative effects associated with Chalk?
With so many uses of it, chalk can be very harmful to the environment and to peoples' health. When chalk is used on chalk boards, some of it is enters the air, especially when the chalk board is erased. This chalk in the air now enters the respiratory systems of the millions of students and teachers who spend more than half of their day in school near these chalkboards. This chalk makes its way from the nose, to the lungs, and affects the respiratory system in a negative way. This chalk in the air is not just causing health problems, it is also air pollution. Also, in the process of manufacturing the chalk that is used in schools, water is added to the chalk which becomes a cause of water pollution
Describe a few alternatives available to combat these negative effects (e.g. health, environment, cost, ease of use, etc.)
I think that there is a solution to this problem but to it will cost a lot. To remove the diseases that chalk causes in our societies, I think there should be something in every classroom that absorbs all the chalk from the air. This would reduce the amount of chalk in the air so there will be less health problems and less air pollution, but the water pollution would still be there. Another solution could be that people start using markers on whiteboards in schools instead of chalk on chalk boards. This could also help because there will be less chalk in the air and there will be less water pollution because the industries would not be making as much chalk anymore. But both of these solutions will cost money and will still be somewhat harmful to both the environment and health.
